Partner with us
We are seeking housing providers to partner on a national study investigating the impact of specialist disability accommodation (SDA)
This project is the recipient of an Australian Research Council Linkage grant, which will generate knowledge using the Home and Living Outcome Framework. This project investigates the outcomes and economic impact of people with disability moving into SDA.
Up to 36,000 people will be eligible for SDA payments in the next 20 years. However, there is a lack of evidence about the outcomes people living in SDA experience. Without knowing what works and what doesn’t, there is a risk that the housing sector will develop SDA that aren’t fit for purpose. This will have detrimental effects not only for people with disability, but also for housing providers who may end up with prolonged vacancies.
This project addresses the lack of evidence by studying the impact of SDA. We are actively seeking housing providers to partner with us in this important research. Partnerships help identify potential participants in the research, as well as ensuring that the intended end-users of the research are involved throughout the project.
What are the implications for the government and SDA sector?
The research and framework will inform evidence-based innovation in future SDA, benefiting all stakeholders.
What is needed from partners?
Housing provider partners will ask people moving into new SDA for consent to share contact details with research team members.
Tenants who agree will be contacted by a researcher who will explain the study in detail and ask the tenant if they would like to participate in interviews before and after they move into SDA.
Our researchers have extensive professional experience conducting interviews with people with disability and complex communication needs.
What will partners receive?
The project uses rigorous and reliable measures (questionnaires) to understand the outcomes and economic impact of disability housing. In addition to quantitative data, in-depth interviews will help us understand tenant experiences of moving into and living in SDA.
Partners will receive an annual summary of results specific to their property portfolios. De-identified data is only provided once there are enough tenants from a provider to ensure anonymity. This will allow partners to publicly report on the impact of their dwellings to stakeholders.
